10.am
Plenty of cloud moving in and tomorrow gives it wet wet wet .
A photo of a new catch now up on the gallery [ hush location] plus a report that the faughan has ample fish laying in the dam at campsie but looking at nothing ..just the odd one caught .
The mourne is quiet and looks like its the worst run in years ....November might be good though !!
I'm off for the day to south of the border [ talk later ] any catches ...07763191232 and send her through .

9.30 am
Yes i can actually get over dramatic at times [ anyway here are some photos of yesterdays first time anglers with their catches from moyagh fishery between L / derry and strabane .
Highly recommended for a family day out .
I'm off to teach the Irish Goose step now in finer camp .LOL.
Its a dry morning and nothing happening and believe me i would have had phone calls by now .
as i said !! the rivers are in danger unless a ship load of salmon come in on these tides .

10.30 pm
Irrespective of what anglers say " the system is over ..ca-put ...finished ..end off "
you have battered the system dry .
BUT !! Watch this space ..........young anglers have taken the option to fish and learn without the local government fisheries help and local clubs ...they are learning to fish on our local moyagh fishery here .[ no licence needed and a very happy mother with her sons today ] take a look at these photos from a mother that just needed guidance and help to teach her sons who constantly cry for help for some mans guidance along the juvenile path .[ the mother of these kids was overwhelmed and actually stated to Sean from moyagh fishery " GOD THERE IS HONEST PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD AFTER ALL " .
6 good trout and a happy parent who never even knew that a fishery existed ......im now into local teaching rather than flogging a dead horse with tourists that aint coming here folks .
My journey now takes me to helping the young local folk that we have over looked .
catch and release or kill if you all want cos I'm not interested anymore .....to see a single mother actually cry was enough for me today ... no help ..no support ....no nothing ...ask Sean at moyagh fishery ...The derry woman hired me for the day and we met beside the tinneys in strabane at 9 am ....the woman just needed help to raise her sons with there interests [ trying to be a mum and dad ] at the end of the day i reduced my fee but she would not hear of it and payed me my fee .....this is not on for this area in the northwest , these single mother parents are just trying so hard and getting no help from any of us .
SEAN from moyagh fishery is a bloody saint and im going to highlight his fishery every week for free ..and why would i not !!!
photos of the boys in the morning before i take my son to finner camp in the morning to collect 70 beds for kids in chernobyl ...whats your day going to be like ?
10.40 ... Omagh ...
not much to report up here either. There are salmon showing in the Strule around Omagh town centre, though not in any great quantity.
Rain forecast for Friday, so maybe we'll get fresh water then.
7.45 am
Well here we go again and its not a bad morning . All the rivers here are quiet at the moment and there's really nothing stirring unlike the Moy down south .[ i wish the foyle was half like it though ] but by saying that it must be completely out of control .... Is that the price of a successful river .
Our tides are very strong now and strabane will fish affordably first as the fish have to go past this area before they hit sion or indeed anywhere else ....tickets work out £10 less than 90% of other club day tickets .
I'm constantly told that the salmon run still has to hit the mourne [ i hope its not Christmas time !!
The faughan has a few fish but nothing to write home about , the roe has nothing at all according to the famous Lard of that area .
The only fish we have had have gone straight up to the camowen where an enhancement program was done on the QT over a period of years not so far back , so its actually paid off for those guys that took on their own conservation project .[ if it wasn't for them you would actually have nothing running the mourne system barr an odd one ]
Do I hear The seasons are changing and runs are getting later " yeh yeh yeh " heard it all before ...its just that the early and mid summer runs have been wiped out " simple as that "
WE have rivers full of otters now , and god knows its good to see , but each otter is taking a good fish nearly every other day ...heres a fish from near the main spawning beds that was taken recently .
So remember its not just the two legged predator ...the line goes on and on , seals actually go as far as the grevenue now or was that benny .
I was lamping worms at the golf course in strabane during the night .....the was some noise coming from haggins and blackstone .........The night ecos all simple sounds you know .

8.pm
A very interesting email from a concerned angler that has fished the moy recently .
Anglers are taking home serious amounts of salmon , one angler took home 40 .
[ shops are also selling wild salmon at 50 euro each and saying they were caught at sea .] my god almighty .
475 fish caught in one day im told .
I'm going to take a different angling road now and take young keen wanabe anglers out to teach them to angle [ accompanied by their parents off course , we have 2 youg lads that are going to catch their first fish at moyagh fishery this week ] hopefully of course ....but i think i'll enjoy it myself plus its a change and they just love their photos taken ? LOL
6.am
A dry morning again , might be a slight mist of dampness in the air .
Best areas to fish today in my books is ......Sion or strabane ..tickets from country sports in strabane ---- try lifford bridge now or lunch time .
Sunday, 25 July 2010
7.pm
The Mourne didn't particularly fish that well today , there was 24 fishing from the mill to the bottom of the wood-hole im told and not a fish caught .[ thats hard to believe ]
The strule is also poor as is the rest .[ the latest excitement was short lived by the looks of things ]
i had to take down yesterdays healthy sign report cos i could end up eating my words .[ i did see fish in the last water though ]
And whilst i was in a house visiting today, i remarked a salmon on the kitchen top , i said " oh ..did you catch an old salmon boy " they all replied at the same time " No " a lad was selling them around the doors for £10 each !! ..must have been farm salmon .
2.pm
2 fish caught on the mourne this morning , and if you feel I'm not up to scratch on the reports lately ..these photos going on now are the reason .....I'm working at it steady .....we need a good holiday soon and thats for sure .
info@foylefishing.com]
11.30 am
A good few men out and about this morning ...7 at the very top of the river derg from around 8 am .
I personally seen no signs of fish at all .
The mourne is in good nick , even lifford bridge ?
5.45am
A dry morning but cloudy ...not bad .
Big tides coming up and remember !! it was this time last year we got the main run of fish .
The owner of the Island on the foyle has pointed out that he has carried out extensive work to the river banking of that section of the foyle and has made it Nature friendly again [ fair play ]
Im off for a couple of hours for a throw .....which reminds me [ an angler hooked and lost 3 fish on the mourne yesterday , his father hooked 4 and landed his first of the season .
Saturday, 24 July 2010
I also made a visit to NMs shop in sion mills today [ beside car show area] they have a good selection of rods and tackle including Greys .
Infact a little cousin of mine bought one at £200 today and Jac threw in a full fly line to to suit for free .
Saturday, 24 July 2010
1.pm
The guys at flyfishyokanga are offering a once in a life time
Opportunity to fish the Yokanga for £1000 . After flights tips and visas the round trip will cost approx £3000 . the weeks are 7th- 14th aug and 14th- 21st .
Anyone interested contact Dee on 07880720369
10.45am
Actually a good morning for a fish if there's any there .....The Fish that mr otter caught yesterday is coming up shortly .
And The local talk around Killeter is " 9 fish taken out of the spawning beds last Sun " [ shrimp] one fish was 10lb .
Sign's of netting up along the derg also ...shot peaces of rope tied to bushes etc .........even a pair of shorts for swimming were left behind unless they belong to the otter family .
Andy Patton is to shy to have his photo on the web after the kipper incident .[ mistaken identity remember ] so its best we leave it .
I wonder what the decision will be at the end of the month [ have we enough fish over the weir or not ? will it go c/r ?......will it close short ? .....will pigs fly ?.....WHO CAN TELL !! find out in next weeks episode of " CARRY ON UP THE FOYLE "
And as i stood up along the water fishing yesterday , The main topic whilst chatting to different folk was [ why is it that all the angling folk in this northwest foyle region do nothing but argue and fight and threaten each other and act like they never had anything in their entire lives and squabble over the rivers like a mad dogs after a bone .] Whilst at a meeting on wed past in the bank house hotel in dungannon , i shuck hands with a representative of invest northern Ireland , and as we all sat down and chatted he ask the question { WE HEAR THAT ANGLERS DO NOTHING BUT FIGHT AND FALL OUT OVER IN THE FOYLE RIVER SYSTEM !! IS THAT TRUE ? ] what could i say only YES .
[ Take a look at the republic he said ! You don't see arguments going on there do you .....they have actually got it all off to a tee , you don't see empty hotels down there or even the streets he added , the place is buzzing and the tourists are flocking to get fishing and even boat excursions etc .[ plus the cost is double south of the border ] so you must realize that there's something not right going on around your location ......i pondered with dismay like a chastised pupal at school .
Just think though [ even or own grants agency in northern Ireland think we are not investing in because they hear that we do nothing but argue ] but there was light at the end of the tunnel at our meeting anyway and we agreed on A form of help .
something about the youkanga river coming up .

8.40 am ... Omagh
The rivers here are all dropping nicely. They're all, however, still a bit grumbly and won't fish right for another few hours, for the fly at least. I only noticed 1 angler out this morning, a Strule stalwart!
A word about the Lovers' Retreat weir ... it's in bad repair and needs something done as a matter of urgency. It's unsightly and looks dangerous, as if it could collapse the next time there's a good flood. Anybody aware of any plans for it?
5.30 am
Looks like a good morning anyway ...I'm taking myself off for the whole of iit if not the complete day [ depending]
As i said yesterday " the weir was showing poor signs at sion "
Our Young 7 year old Alex Thompson connects with his first ever salmon [ photo on gallery ]
its going to be a dry type of a day and the morning should be the best .[ i hope ]
AND as i sit here writing this A BIG BLACK CAT has just come and sat outside my Patio doors !!!!! yeh yeh yeh .[ so much for my " BEWARE OF THE DOG SIGNS"
Thursday, 22 July 2010
Alex Thompsons first ever catch now on gallery [ faughan caught ]
11.pm
The weir at sion was very disappointing this evening .....gone are the days of the sea trout and the summer run .
No catch reports from the derg when i was talking to an angler that fished the beaches all day , he came down to see what was happening at the sion weir on the mourne but like myself was disappointed .
And N/M tackle shop in sion beside the car show room is a little tackle shop you want to pay a visit to ....A good variety of gear and tackle .[ call in for a nosey and a chat ] i must call in find out if theres any special offers on .
Plus we had a young angler on the faughan catching his first ever salmon ...details and photo coming up .
The upper finn was a waste of time for some visiting anglers today ...they paid £50 a head and seen nothing ...they did see a couple of grilse trying the leap but that was all .
14.45 ... Omagh
The Camowen is now out of order. Despite no apparent rise in water-levels, the water is chocolate-brown.
Noon ... Omagh
The Camowen is clean and there's a steady run of salmon through the Lovers' Retreat weir. The water in town is murky. I met some anglers at the weir beside the Arts Centre. Not one was happy with this weir. It was badly designed and should never have been built. The counter itself is a narrow structure. The upstream curve on the weir causes great turbulance immediately downstream. It's little wonder that few salmon try to swim through the counter. There's no defined stream of water to lead them to it and the vast bulk of salmon jump over the body of the weir at either end. What a waste of money and effort ... all to provide something aesthetically pleasing to the eyes of those who know nothing about salmon and their habits. Omagh District Council makes some strange decisions ... the Hydro scheme being another ... how are they allowed to do these things?
8.30 am
The river Roe on upper bank state...........................this is good for all rivers plus we have good building tides for the wolf moon on " is it sun nite " think it is ?
8.10 am
Well of course its high but you can notice the difference in colour when the mourne and finn meet .....The finn is simply clean compared to the brown mourne .[ so its simply up the finn for a throw if you fancy that direction , or as i said " the river derg "
The mourne is simply RED !! --------is that a mix up i wonder [ just fish away ]
7.45am
I shouldn't have to tell you what the water is like , but i can tell you one thing though " Fish are moving over the weir at lovers retreat in omagh " the odd big one also .
Its dry ish this morning and clearing well .
going over lifford bridge in 5 minutes ........07763191232

7.10 am ... Omagh area ...
dp1066@hotmail.co.uk ...
Some rain overnight and a lot more promised later today ... if you can believe the Met Office forecasts! The Strule's up about a foot or so this morning and should be in full flood this time tomorrow.
Yesterday's report of the 12-pounder being caught near Omagh's old army-camp was a hoax. The young man in the photo was not responsible for submitting it. I know who did, but will not name him here. Interestingly, the fish was found dead in the river last year. It was taken by N to bailiffs and subsequent investigations found that it had been hooked and "played to death".
More later.

9.30pm
still the same and I'm logging off ....any info you need just text me on 07763181232 [ unlimited texts i have ] but no phone calls except the usual party of course .........reclining sofa time and a nice film .
9.pm
Still raining.. and you must admit lads ....this service is 100% to you guys not living here . progress and technology will prevail
8.15pm
still raining
And a photo of sean kellys 2lb brownie caught today now on gallery .[ sent 5 min ago via phone to phone .
7.25 pm ... Omagh
Good rain up here for the past 7 hours or so. A certain flood tomorrow.
A grilse was caught Sat the 17th. July by Bryan McGurk up at Drumduff, in the C'more / L'macrory region. I've put a photo of it on the Gallery.
cheers omagh ...im not going to take the point like father ted in the lingerie department when they were trying to get out , but its 7.45 pm now and still pouring ....infact ..holy sht ...........its gone crazy.........anymore and i'll be selling day tickets for my back yard .
7.pm
still raining
6.pm
still raining ........the only rivers that should fish tomorrow are the derg and the finn .
For finn tickets contact glenmore fishery on our links page [ simply red ]
or for the derg , day tickets in danny mc hughs shop above killeter or for lower derg tickets call in at taggart jacks in ardstraw .....im afraid our woodside club needs a lot of development to have day tickets yet .[ its bush country lol ]
photos of rod poachers on the fish pass now on gallery ..i have no time to enlarge them ...but if you have the time !! work away .
Still pouring .
3.pm
Dan]
I'm just back from dungannon and its a gorgeous day up there . I didn't really hit the rain until i came over the hills into gortin . it all seems to be up around the sperrins and even more around derg and finn valley ..plus of course here .[but im sure we will all get a drop at some time ] a report on the radio said cars had to actually stop near belfast because it was so heavy .
[ No water is the glenelly or owenkillew yet anyway [ top ends ] one stream dirty !
WE have some fresh ideas for this site today at our meeting and will hopefully be put into action soon ....in fact its the only way forward for real progress .
1.45pm
well folks its on the way that is a big brown flood rain all morning hard .well we had a few fish caught this morning at strabane waters marty mclaughlin got two small fish and patrick mcguigan got one and marty oil got wet not on his own simon got a good wetten last night he fell in lads dont be slagging him can happen to the best of us .still raining
8.45am
Pouring it down , and i mean heavy .[ that looks to be a flood in the making if that keeps up for an hour or so ]
Regarding the fish pass in sion mills .....It certainly was poached by two lads last evening ,they were even seen carrying the back packs with something smooth and heavy in each bag as they walked down the liskey rd .
The loughs agency will of course have their own evidence as their own cameras are pointed directly at the pass ....i know this cos i was in prehen office watching one day .
My photos were taken by my phone so forgive the bad images.
And of course its hard to police a river all the time , but this is thee main station of what used to be " THE MIGHTY FOYLE " Simply employ two men or take someone from prehen and put them in the counter hut and let them do their book work from there as they look out a window ..........surely todays technology allows that .
And just as i end this report the rain is even getting heavier .............but did anyone see that sky before dark last night , it looked like omagh or fermanagh was getting it hard .
Tuesday, 20 July 2010
7.50pm
Well the nest has been robbed at sion the best you seen this evening .[ the centre fish run was poached by two rod men ] in fact they are still there , they thought we were bailiffs and stopped for a minute to check us out .
They have at least 2 or 3 fish each ........there's plenty of witnesses and Ive got photos which im going to put up ..........they have two back packs full .
2.15 pm ... Omagh area ... the water-levels are way down again, we're hoping for a lot more rain. Unlike the Rivers Agency, who are carrying out work on the River Strule in the middle of Omagh town. It seems they are building an underwater passageway to allow machinery to get up to Abbey Bridge so that a build-up of silt and rubbish can be cleaned up. I'll put a couple of photos on the Gallery to show what's happening.
1.pm
Right !!!
This is the story so far today .{ No fish caught at the grevenue from 4.30 am until 9am ..12 anglers on it and not a pull between them ]
I was at burkes side around 11 or so and only 2 lads were fishing the grevenue and two fishing the lade .....no joy ]
I did see a couple of fish coming straight out of the bears burn , they didn't seem to be running .
The water itself is seemingly ok but there is a hugh tree blocking the top of the centre fish pass [ photo coming soon ]
Only one frank Elliott fishing the feddens when i was going to newtown but he was joined by another when i was coming back .
[ no fish caught at newtown at all , but one angler seems to be seeing them with his special £40 sunglasses [lol] joking SEAN .
A couple fishing the doctors on the strabane water but no reports of catches .
No reports from the derg nor the glenelly or owenkillew .[ one angler said it was looking bad even though there was a few fish last week but disappeared from the pool above the counter on the owenkillew .[ don't know where they went he added]
Another angler said Berty Anderson's should be catch and release cos the fish are brown as a bears bottom when they get that far .
And like my Diner i leave the best to last { A photo shortly of a catch this morning from Niall Mc Lernon from Omagh with his 12lb fish caught near army camp ..plus he returned her again ....congratulations Niall.
Photos to info@foylefishing.com or 07763191232
All in All its sure lookin bad , either that or those who are catching fish and keeping it quiet must seriously want the mourne system turned into full catch and release altogether , i know one thing though .....it would put me out of the fishing business for good and that's for definite .
Anyway .......clear this pass now ............if it was up to me I'd be out in my boat irrespective of who owns the rights .
It shows irresponsibility

20.20 ... Omagh
No rain up here this evening, though it looked likely at a time.
I was out again today, giving the fly-rod a bashing. I had no luck, but I did see one fish. It came clean out of the water about 5 feet from me. I'll swear there a smirk on its face! The water's dropped away and we could do with more rain. There's a scattering of salmon all along the system.
7.pm
There is nice water in the mourne at present , just enough to move fish anywhere they want to go really .
There is also the odd very dark cloud about and omagh or gortin could well get a blast .
Foyle Bailiffs are at this minute at paddy's stream ....looks like they are either checking licences and checking the southern reg vehicle parked tight to the hedge .
4.30pm
{ strabane]
Country Sport's have an amazing selection of high quality Whisker Spinning Rods on Special offer this week - contact 028 88713021 for details .
PLUS - Single Barb-less spinner's can also be purchased .
11.20 am
The bad weather cleared up earlier and it is on the dry side now ..... i must take a walk down the woodhole ... if there's any amount of fish about ..they usually show there .
7.15am
Well its wet and grey all over this morning but i hear the east of the country is getting the bulk of the bad weather .
And i know of anglers with two fish each from sion area yesterday , even one with three ?
Its actually good to see a bit life in the system at last and all slagging aside , but watch the pools near the weir this week ..other people will !!
Please don't take things to serious about sion waters children , you are worse than United fans.
[ A brother of mine who lives in sion mills and runs the united supporters club actually breaks down if united are beat ] I'm serious .......fishing is the same " must be the air "
SO if you are so easy upset , what do other supporters do ? Yes ..they give it to you every time you stick your head out the door !!
So take her easy .......I don't want the river to close or go catch and release just as much as the rest of you men in sion , but the crying and whinging " GOD PRESERVE ME " its Awful ...its horror-ably awful .....if you want to take 40 fish home a season " good " but don't be hypocrite's .
Sunday, 18 July 2010
5.30pm
Sorry ......Young Stephanie with her dads fish from the bigh today .
A few more fish caught also ......and one broke behind the mill .
Remember this !!! if you slaughter to many fish from the main station then the well will eventually run dry ....reporting the odd catch and released fish would help just like they are doing on the derg .[ of course its nice to take the odd fish home but personally i believe in a couple of tags per season rather than 25 but thats just my views ...who needs 25 salmon per year unless your selling them and then it can double .
The commercial nets men are hearing about fish being slaughtered at sion ....please don't rub their noeses in it , remember they still have to pay half their licence of £100 of the 200 and they cant go out at all .....and they were brought off for the rivers to restock and help the system , not for a killing match at their expense .
1.15 pm ... Omagh ... I was out early on the river Strule this morning. The only salmon I personally saw was the one I hooked and lost at 8.45 am! It took a copper/silver spoon and fought hard on the surface ... a sign of a lightly-hooked fish, some would say ... and I got a good look at it. It wasn't a grilse, but possibly one of the best salmon I've ever hooked. I had it on for about 45 seconds when the hook came away. I was left standing with that awful empty feeling in my gut.
I talked to a few other anglers and they'd all seen salmon showing, though none of them had caught any.
The water's dropping away, but it's still in good order.
12,15 afternoon
dan]
well i definitely didn't over do it to much but here is my own assumption of what the story is on the finn ..but 6 hours was long enough though
The fish they are talking about and hooking about on the finn are all up above the leap on the beds , so its actually a good job its catch and release [ letterbrack on the finn and the reelin above boners at the reelin bridge are the hot spots ] of course there is the odd fish down at the chapel bridge and martins but not the same .[ this is the talk when i ran into two different anglers .
I actually fished the finn water from mahons on up towards glenmore bridge and seen nothing barr a few brownies that took my one hook flying C ....But what a beautiful morning it turned out to be at one stage after the daybreak shower or two .
So after reaching a distance whilst walking and fishing hard all the way and seeing nothing i decided to turn and make it back down towards mahons again , and when i eventually got there with the sweat rolling of me [ cos the bushes and long grass] i then give the tail end of mahons a quick throw , and bang !! into a fish .[ i'm saying no more ? ] so lets leave that ?
I also noticed patrick mc Guigan {i think] fishing below the new bridge in strabane at cock crow plus anglers were out at the opposite side of the pot on the finn above ballybofey .
All in all not a bad morning but Nature was the highlight .[ the finn has all its fish up at the beds now so please look after them ]
5 am
dan]
I.m up and out for a long long excurssion today , first its the top of the finn and then its over the mountains to the derg .
Its a cloudy morning but more or less on the dry side .

5 pm ... Omagh ... the Strule's still a bit high for fly-fishing, but is coming into good shape. It's grand for spinning at the minute. Tommy Cunningham caught a small grilse at the Stone Bridge. Tommy, ever the sportsman, released the fish immediately. Well done Tommy, off the bus in style.
I'm out early in the morning for a rattle somewhere, report later.
Dan ]
7.pm
Had a nice run up the derg this evening and hooked another fish and lost her ...thats two in a row , perhaps 3rd time lucky : i didn't see any other fish showing but a local told me he had a fish of 3lb earlier in the morning , i also received a text to inform me that an angler hooked 5 fish landed 4 and returned 3 on the derg this morning also.
The Sardines were also seen up at the border near lough derg ....two jeeps not one at all .
And i noticed a fresh thin new peace of blue rope tied to a tree at one side of a pool when i was strolling today up around the derg ..it was also cut 3ft out indicating that poachers used a dingy , the grass was tramped down on the other side .[ how i know they used a boat was that they could not possibly get in through the dangerous overgrowth on the cut rope side ] i must send the loughs agency a text .
[ Also ] An angler on the roe is not a happy chappy with the roe count and no fish in the river he said .] one fish caught all day .
A report also informing me that the rivers in Scotland are nearly empty of salmon [ can this be true ]
Well i must eat my hat cos I've been informed that the upper finn is indeed full of fish , the closing of the commercial nets seem to have done the trick .
Isn't it superb to see them put back in again as-well ....29 hooked by one angler over a few day and 10 landed and returned .
[ CATCH AND RELEASE MIGHT NOT BE ALL THAT BAD AFTER ALL YOU KNOW } just my thoughts
Fish running the derg today also ...bailiffs out in force as-well ...........Tommy Mc arees face is push up against the windscreen because its like sardines inside that jeep .
And the mourne has droped big time
My spelling on last nights post was atrocious simply because i need glasses in my old age .
[ we had heavy rain throughout the night }
And i would just like to point out that " if you believe all you hear , you'll definitely eat all you see " I'm referring to the fishery report and I'm not blaming them if some are exaggerated slightly because I'm in the same boat .. we can only report remember what anglers tell us , but ! Isn't it so funny the anglers on the upper Finn are catching dozens of salmon each since the catch and release was enforced on that system {think about it for a sec} you would think they were trying to make out that its so healthy it could actually be open again soon ?? ...well i was told yesterday that everything recorded on the counter is final , even if salmon went up in helicopters [ its the digits on the counter that count ]
But at the same time ?? It's very unusual for a fisherman to spin a yarn isn't it !! I must go now and eat the table cloth , it looks so tasty ....well so i'm told [ lol] of course
Friday, 16 July 2010
12.00 midnight .
I know ive reached out to almost 2000 people today with my reports ...uncounted ones on the site are coming in also via phone contacts on the blog only .[ here is the latest ] take it or forget it .
127 salmon taken out of a net at port hall over last weekend ..3 nights .
{ true talk ]
26 fish taken from the faughan [ nets..pullin hole ..and taken before dark]....i have already reported the incidents ...and this was genuine mail .
speaking to a the poacher at sion today [ he also talked to david the I.T man from the loughs agency ..but david didn't know him from adam .
anyway ..i knew him and he had 9 fish for the week at sion and not a bother ...one 8lb
I'm just the reporter remember ...oh and ....a tackle shop in sion is supposed to be closing down ............my luck its the wrong one .lol....get new break pads ..lol
I would love to spend my time reporting the positive things on the foyle , but when you have clubs and fisheries giving you absolutely no information at all , i must then report the obvious happenings of the system thus throwing the rivers into turmoil and the possibility of closure ....if i have info on positive catches and even releases i would not have time on my hands to pick up the wrong doings of the poachers escapades , but i would also find that they are also important for your knowledge of whats going on [ but i would take it easy of course ]
It takes me 15 minutes to get a report done and i even have to edit it live because the timing on this bloody programe is so fast .[ it stops in 16 min or else i have to start again] so what i do is copy at different stages and then re paste .
{ do you think i need all the bad news to report ?? ] but if thats all what i have... i'll use it !!
[ i do tell the all these reports secretly behind the scenes , but as i say ........i'll blast them out to the public if theres nothing else .
Plus ..i'll have to get out on the field more often from now on , but its not worth it when all you hear and see is bad news of no good catches .]
David from the loughs agency was an inspiration to me today and give me honesty and hope [ cheers david ]
taking the morrow off i tink ...so omagh ...press ADD first for to start daily report instead of edit ..cheers .
3.30 pm
Well Ive checked all the clean tributaries like the derg and finn ....anglers are expecting the worst .
Not a fish hooked or seen .
The only tributary that eventually feeds into the river mourne that is showing any form of life is The camowen up in omagh .{ bother men]
I also spent a while with a gentleman from the Loughs Agency { I. T } at the sion mills weir today .........what a pleasant guy to chat to ...and helpful , i wish i had of met this guy at the start .
{ anyway not a fish on the weir and not a sight of one along the wall } we're in trouble and thats for sure .
And an angler says its not a " out at sea problem danny because the Moy has plenty of fish "
SO !! Whats your opinion ........send me an email or text and ill put it on ?
Also .....Anglers tell me that guys are shrimpung the spawning beds on the derg and have taken fish in front of them [ they reported it ]
Another elderly gentleman pointed out to me infront of the loughs agencys I. T men that the problem lay with the commercial nets and not with the angler that takes dozens home every season..[ i had to point out that the nets were off !!
10.25 am ... Omagh
The Strule is fairly big and brown. It's a little lower around Omagh itself, but may rise more, depending on today's rainfall.
A few salmon have been seen crossing the Lovers' Retreat weir already this morning and more should come as the water fines off.
We can look forward to wetting a line over the next few days, provided there's no more heavy rain.
9.am
As i said ....rivers would rise ............The river Roe is big and dirty .
The mourne is Big ..best areas ..Finn upper and derg ......finn is of course c/r
Thursday, 15 July 2010
9.30pm
Nothing showing on the sion weir tonight , and here are the bailiffs { tommy and pilot } heading through sion mills a short time ago heading for a night on the river .[ this is to show you that bailiffs go out at night and do not go home at 6pm as some anglers think ]
3.45 pm ... Omagh ...
dp1066@hotmail.co.uk ...
The feeder-streams are filling up after the thundery afternoon w've had. Some good spells of heavy rain.
I was over at the weir beside the Strule Arts Centre in Omagh a short time ago. I was in company. We noticed small salmon trying to jump the weir. In all, we saw upwards of a dozen attempted leaps, with 3 succeeding. We were only there a short time in all, due to the heavy rain. I wonder how many the "counter" will have recorded?
3.10 pm
One miserable fish seen on the weir and no fish hanging up anywhere ...an angler had a 3lb fish from newtown at first light this morning and there's 6 inches in the strule near omagh .
That's it !!! I'm lifting my coat and clocking out for the day ....some local anglers are away playing golf today so i'll meet them at the 19th hole .
If ..And i mean only "if " Any miracles of mass runs of fish hit the system , I'll be back on ............we will have some water all over and that's for sure , so live in hope as the man says .........I'm going now to invoke A Turtle and relax .
2.pm
The two martys spent from day break to sun-set fishing the doctors on the mourne yesterday and only seen 2 skilpers of grilse for the whole day .
[ personally i think the salmon gods are taking the piss ]
1.30 pm
We have fair water in most of the rivers here but no reports of catches ...i've been from ballybofey to derry plus castlederg to gortin this morning so far and not a catch from men i spoke to .
i'll take a check at the weir at sion to see whats happening and then i'll take it easy and relax a bit .
Its great to be paid for one job when it lets you visit all the rivers aswell at the same time ....its aw full .....oh the deele is coloured at ballindrait .
10.am
The rain in ballyboffey is coming down in buckets , and i mean buckets ....they seem to be 10 to 15 minute thunder type showers .
The finn seems in good order also .
6 bell's ..am
Grey but dry .
God but i love doing report's .........if the system were to come into the rule of catch/release my hopes would be rattled a bit because of the work I've been doing over the past 5 months , " BUT " Excepted i would and take it like a man on the chin if i thought it would enhance the rivers for the future years .[ whats a year or 3 anyway !!! ] My reports would of course ease which i need to happen cos its taking over the old life of mine , and the old forum could come down and things could be simple like they were at the start of this project and my spare hours could be used for taking photos along the weirs and spawning beds of the old system [ heaven of course ] and plenty to snaps at that............bloody heaven and that's a fact !
Anyway .........back to hell and off wees goes to a bit of a rampage this morning .[ not telling ] don't forget about the restocking of good big trout in the Moyagh fishery here on Fri coming ...........everyman needs a helping hand so take yourself and your kids out for an hour or two and enjoy .
[ simply support your local sheriff instead of using good fuel to head in a longer and different direction for the same crack ]
Wednesday, 14 July 2010
10.45pm
Moyagh trout fishery restocked this fri coming ....get down for the crack .[ affordable for all the family and rods available for hire ]
7 pm ... Omagh area.
Well, the water's all dropped away up here. There's a smattering of salmon about, but nothing spectacular. I heard of 2 hooked and lost last night on the Camowen nearhand the T&F hospital grounds.
According to the counter in the weir in Omagh Town centre, 1 salmon has passed through since March!
6.30 pm
All signs of fish have disapeared im told up at the meetings of the strule and owenkillew .
I don't think theres any through the counter on the owenkillew ..AT ALL.
We have a skeleton run of fish going up the derg and a pocket of fish running the strule .
Wheres the big run gone .
I have recieved information that a meeting will take place shortly regarding the mourne system ..no decissions made at this point [ i've already said to much ] anyway ..use your own discretion
The feddens must have fished bad yesterday ...only one car parked there today.
Sorry about the delay ..........the latest has held me back for a while .
I'm not saying anything yet as i said i wouldn't until things are investigated fully .
Fresh water of course [ 3 inches ] and fish are going through newtownstewart and two caught at the playing fields ..one on worm and one on fly .
And to be completely honest even with these few fish ..its not looking good for future prospects , thats all i can say at the minute ....i'm slightly worried myself...BUT THATS LIFE ?
Tuesday, 13 July 2010
11.30 pm
I'm sureYou've all heard of the Irish TD called Pat Rabbit , and i'm also sure you've heard of Johnny Fox's on the Dublin mountains , or even the Lion's ..Swans or Jack Daws from outside omagh .
[ well here are two phone sent photo's on the gallery now of the " WOLF FAMILY " from Newtownstewart ...both with a fish each .
Where is the BEAR family i wonder !!
But remember this all { watch out for the HUNTER ?] L
8.pm
I met some anglers today all along the strule and derg .......there was not much happening around the home field at newtownstewart and the gentlemen i spoke to were giving up for the day at just 3 pm because nothing was happening .
Information then came in that 4 fish were landed at the woodhole on the mourne and a fish lost at the grevenue ....another fish hooked at paddys also .
The omagh anglers i spoke to also pointed out that the river finn should never have been catch and release .{ i agreed but stressed that it was forewarned 6 years ago and pointed out that if anglers keep their catches secret then the loughs agency will take it that this system is weak and then make the ultimate decission for the worst ] i also said that the S bends on the finn should have been closed many a long years ago when i warned , but the heed was not picked up promptly and acted upon at the time .
Now we have the same problen in the Mourne system " for the summer run anyway so far " [ if the upper deep dark Nursery waters are not closed or protected the same will follow here] ....remember this !! i walk hunderds of miles each year on the upper spawning beds and i notice things ....things like foreign Nationals electro fishing and taking thousands of smolts and fry of all types [ they make good fish soup ] ...cormants are nothing compared to these guys remember....then you have the rod and net poachers ....it all takes its toll you know !.......I guarantee you all now that if you all got a body of men out for just one night you'd see something illegal on the river and thats for sure .
{ john Mc cartney from the loughs agency [ and i know he will read this so i can't pretend ] said to me on friday past that its like las vegas on the rivers here at night danny { go out and have a peek for yourself } if you all go to bed and sleep it won't go away you know ?
If you don't believe me " phone him , but the poor guy has only 4 hours sleep per day .[ so give him a break ]
Its serious men ..honest it is !!
Anyway ] Not to many anglers on the derg today when i headed there , it seems quiet enough and thats not a good sign for july , but then again , its just on the border of making a decission yet for weather its good or bad ...from august on is best .{i hope]
Take my advice men and i'm not joking ..irespective of what you feel about my past comments and reports on this site or what some of you might think of me personally because i tell all ..i can actually help "US " ....Make your own choice NOW ! ...i just know that little bit more info than most and have tried to spell it out in the past .but what can you do " MAN ONLY ACTS AFTER A DISSASTER "
{so report your catches and save the system , its so simple ..sion weir cant be counted and remember that } lots of men fishing the feddens and mulvin today so i wonder if they are feeling the pinch ...plus opposite liskey wood was well strimed yesterday for visitors .{ will it be worth it ]
I actually had to do the same job today myself ....A strimmer ....cutter ...chainsaw the lot [ the old back just can't take it anymore ]
Send all photos now if you can to 07763191232 ........yes men {ive finally got a brand new up to date extra special phone now that will hold 2 gbs of photos ....so start sending them and make her look good ..................and smile , even if it hurts !
12.noon
An angler fishing newtownstewart at this minute hooked a good trout 10 minutes ago and played it but it got off the hook and as he proceeded to reel the slack in , a grilse of 4lbs took the flying c .[ happy days ]
A fine morning for going up the river somewhere and getting away from it all plus a few photos of course .
The strule seems to be the place to be right now if your up this part of the country , but there definitely is fish in the faughan and Roe if you fancy a change.
Phone or text 07763191232 if you have any news or even complaints about anything regarding our river system and i'll take it to the limit or email

1.pm
I noticed a steady progress of small grilse motoring over the weir at sion just now ....two young lads had 3 fish between them also , caught at the lade mouth by the by .
25 Plus salmon caught from the river faughan yesterday .....[ the river with no fish eh ]
10.30 am
dan]
It was no good at the derg this morning ....we seen one fish turning at the tail end of a pool but that was it , plus the water is good enough for running fish but they are simply not there .
A couple of coloured grilse caught yesterday at the very top of tullnashane on the same river [ border area ] but the mass of anglers everywhere else on the derg had nothing at all .
WE then went up the Owenkillew and glenelly direction around 8 am { nothing but the water is cleaning well ]
The strule seems to be the path these few fish are taking but its flithy dirty [ sandy coloured ?] i met a visiting angler at the omagh club waters at newtownstewart ..he was heading home .
I hope were not in trouble with the Mourne systems july count ??
The day is fine and dry .
4.30 am
[dan]
A dry morning anyway plus its cloudy , and it's also " GET OUT AND FISH DAY "

A photo of Tommys fish now on gallery ......And im sorry Kyle for taking so long to get yours up ...its me not the new phone , im learning and reading the book here .
10.40 am
I can report this today , But i wasn't allowed to yesterday due to the low water conditions .[ The roe had a lot of fish laying in the tidal areas ]
yeh the mourne is big and brown ...The finn is on the clean side.
10.am
Banker in the finn plus all other rivers are up big time .
Saturday, 10 July 2010
3.30 am
still raining ..im definitely off now .
this is actually sunday early morning ... and i must add this for a change from fishing " the late sean Rowe from the loughs agency poped into my mind when i walked the owenkillew near newtownstewart today , i then glanced at the ascot section of the daily mirror later and noticed a horse called " rowe park " well i stuck a 10 er on it in a little bookies in newtown which ive never been in before ...............it win at ..was it 10 or 12's .........thanks anyway sean as my last bet was the national ...i even ask the man at the bookies how much tax i had to pay ..........its done away with years ago he said ......i also had waveband at the same price. what a day .........good night .im off .
3.am
reports of fish moving over the weir in omagh tonight ...an email just in ...rain light now
2 .45 am
The rain is back on with a vengence .
Plus i have let the last 15 forum members on without contact ..be good
2.am
rain of course has stoped but our waters are rising fast , burns are flooded .
Best places tomorrow are finn and derg .
9'30 pm
A funny text message from carrickmore and omagh ....they both more or less say the same " prepare yourselves for a tsunami down there " shes a comin down the mountain " !
another fish for the kids ..this was from a fauighan angler ....presented to domnic bradley .
5.30pm
There is going to be a huge banker if this rain stays up for another hour , its coming down in buckets.
4.20 pm
The rain started at 3,20 this evening and still going , infact its getting heavier .
I seen an angler with a fish from the liskey side of the grevenue this evening around 2 pm
Nial mc laren had a fish from the strule near omagh last evening and one this morning .
A bit of an oil spill at lifford yesterday but contained .
Nets got at lifford bridge .
Brown flood tomorrow !!!!!
12 noon
[dan]
Reports of serious rain up at carrickmore last night .
And 3 1/2 lb fish caught on a trout fly at the strule outside newtown .
We also have been given an 8lb fish for the Chernobyl childrens Aid barbeque tomorrow in buncrana ..the fish was caught from the drowes . 07763191232 what would a foyle one taste like do you think ..........I know most believe that charity begins at home and the local Ulster cliche here is " ALL FOR ONE AND EVERYMAN FOR HIMSELF " ,,,,,,well that and the usual one " ASK NOT WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY BUT WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOURSELF " thats us ?
And for the guys that smirk and scoff on other forum sites about not believing these foylefishing reports { heres one about the faughan and in regards to there being no fish in it }
50 salmon were taken out of a certain pool along the faughan by poachers , and the thing about it is !! They where seen by anglers who never reported it .
NOW ...what chance has the protection staff have with this attitude .
Plus .......5 fish taken by one angler on the worm from the faughan { lets say not far from the hospital }
Another angler had six but returned 5 of them ...................Now thats not bad for a river with no fish eh ...........Forum plonkers .
Also a photo of our tommy with fish coming up later , plus Kyle wolf is off the bus with his fish ....photo up soon .
Im just heading out but will get them on later .
And omagh reports ..............The codes are changed , i've sent emails unless your on holidays .
10.am
[Dan}
A beautiful morning and the sun is shinning ..BUT !! its all going to change by the looks of things , there is very heavy rain due around the last few hours of the day and right into sun morning . This will of course Coincide with the New Moon Tides if the old rivers rise .
No catch reports yet as i'm just coming round .
Friday, 09 July 2010
4.00 pm
Don't be attacking me for all these reports men ....that last one was not me .
This one is though .
I've been fishing lifford bridge there and one lad lost a fish then landed one .[returned]
Then we had a lad with a small grilse on the spinner up around the corner ...seen a few fish coming off the tide.
The river banks are full no mater where you go ........sure isn't it good to see it .
{ im not attacking sion any more , so im personally of the scene ok } we have 4 reporters on the site remember .
And who cares if theres 50 around a pool ....the fish don't know and i just windeup for the crack .
A nice walk out to lifford for a pint of stout .
1.15pm
just got a text that fourteen men fishing doctors its as bad as sion well tommy is off the bus 3lb grilise just two men on the bus simon and muckie, muckie is the only man in sion that has not got a fish from the main pool in sion cant mine wat u call it i am sure he will get one photo of tommys fish coming up.
10.45 am
The Northwest Chernobyl childrens Aid have 60 young kids here staying with host families .
They are all getting together on sunday in buncrana for a Barbeque and the head of the organisation has ask me to put out if any angler would have a wild salmon as these kids have never even tasted salted kippers never talk about a salmon sandwich...and their life expectency is short due to their illnesses of course ...phone 07980092493 or 02871383523....or give myself a call on 07763191232
...info@foylefishing.com
10.am
Here we go again ..Well its a wet morning and going to get more wet wet wet at the weekend i believe .
one fish caught at the strabane waters this morning , a visitor , and theres a mini bus full of visitors heading for country sports for day tickets just now as they phoned for advice and directions .[ sorry men ] the gardens look nice .
Thursday, 08 July 2010
11.10pm
Aidan langan did it again ....a grilse tonight from strabane waters ...hes going to pass the lot if he keeps going the way he does .
Patrick Mc Guigian got 2 ..a 4lb and 7lb ....released one .
Also ...dev got one ..........all strabane waters .
What a night .
A text just in [ 2 fish caught at the boat hole ..a 4 and a 3lb ....both returned .
The 3 lads caught with a net at cloghan were 16 years olds .
poaching has also increased all over the foyle system , the loughs agency tell me that they have had more trouble than the past seasons because the price of wild salmon has rocketed due to the commercial nets going off .
Aliens have also landed and are buying them by the van load [ lol ] but if you only really knew that the Aliens landed over 10.000 years ago and we're still here , REALLY LOL........why do you think we don't need our appendix [ GPS]anymore ...nano nano .....beam me up scotty .
[ the crack can be good on other forums also and i do peek in now and then and have a laugh ]
And those fish at the faughan were seen getting of the train with their suitcases in finn .
plus ........could mr angry please applozise to mr laughing mc cartney for attacking him about the grevenue closing.....the poor man needs stitches in his side so he does.
And one forum member got it so right !!! " WHO CARES "
9.30pm
Marty mc laughlin had a fish from the strabane / lifford waters yesterday evening [ A grilse ]
Aidan Langan hooked and lost two this morning from the same place and a couple caught by others .....all small grilse .
Tides are building and the big one is on sunday night . rain is also on the way .
5.10 pm
We had a few throws up at welshtown on the finn water over the last 3 hours .
Seen nothing only a huge otter and a mother duck with ducklings .....i'd better go ! " my mouths watering "
1.45 pm
4 nets got by the loughs agency last night . and would the whingers stop crying to the loughs agency about the fear of the grevenue closing .
If you can't police it and control it and put in place the rules and regulations agreed then it will fall under different rules from a different body with only two fishing it at any one time .[ its a slaughtering hole ] imagine 22 fishing one pool ??...come on now men , that definitely is a recipe for dissaster .
BUT it will close but not this year and remember its well within the conservation boundry by 400 yards..yes 400 yards within the boundry compared to omagh .
[ protest ] wheres that stick !!
12.30 afternoon
I walked some off the faughan after leaving back the service vehicle to Donnelly and taggart .
2 fish caught at the hab this morning and not a lot showing , but i did get plenty of information .
I can't say where the fish are exactly but i do know !! sorry
and just as im heading out the door " just after landing a 5.1/2 lb sea liced fish at newtownstewart , lost 2 earlier " a text
9.30 am
A dull morning but dry .........rain expected tonight .
I must have a look at the faughan this morning to see what is going on .
There is also a spey fishing match coming up on the glenmore fishery soon , they'll be some top names like carron .
I'm waiting for all the details to be forwarded .
Wednesday, 07 July 2010
11.10 pm
A serious amount of fish have just entered into the faughan , an angller has said that he hasn't whitnessed anything like it for yonks .....well at least thats good news for a change
5.20 pm ... Omagh area ... a fish caught on the worm last night at the meetings at Newton and one today below the new fly-over. Plenty of men out, including myself. I got nothing, of course!
I talked to a local Landowner in that area earlier. He was very irate at some irresponsible anglers who had broken down barbed-wire fences, letting cattle out. C'mon men, show a bit of decent courtesy towards Landowners, it's in all our interests.
4.05 pm
In response to the latest report a caller informs me that theres no big run of fish in the mourne that you think , infact he spent over 3 hours at the far side of the grevenue yesterday and only seen 1 fish caught ...he also counted 22 anglers on that spot and thats not good when you only get one fish ....he added that he is worried it all could be catch / release soon if the quota is not up on the july conservation count .
so don't listen to rumours dan he said !!
3.30 pm
There is fish getting caught from strabane to Ardstraw i'm told , and plenty of good water to keep them moving through .
Everyone has a fish from the grevenue except mucky that is [ thats a text ]
What happened the morning and evening shifts on that beat ....it seems to be a free for all .[ i'm going to name it the new " killing zone" ] It is true though !!! Why bother taking the nets off the foyle if your going to just bang them over the head in a bottle neck .
This was a discussion over at lifford today with commercial nets men ....they are livid at what they are hearing and are writing to their TD's { MLA's } National papers should also be informed ...and off course i'll send a few to the higher Authorities .
It will turn out like the finn if nothing is done ...yes of course we have a few fish this week but its like seaguls after a trawler .
8.30 Omagh area ...
dp1066@hotmail.co.uk ... still no water in the Strule around Omagh. Only light rain is forecast before the weekend, when we're promised heavy rain. Aye, right!
7.20 am
I.m not sure if its the tide or what , but there seems to be plenty of water around lifford bridge just now plus the finn seems to be more fuller than the river mourne so perhaps they did get the rise expected .
Chris De Magargy from simply red had 9 fish for his few hours fishing fly yesterday at glenmore on the river FINN .....he also tells me that Black sabbath are coming to fish the glenmore section soon , so why don't you get your glenmore ticket cos you never know who you'd meet along our waterways these days ...details of glenmore on our links page .
Tuesday, 06 July 2010
9.pm
it looks like another flood in the morning ...fish running both mourne and finn all day today .
Glenmore reckon it could be a bigger flood than the last because it has rained up there most of the day .
Aidan langans of the bus fish on the gallery now..... plus .....Sean okane and Simon preston are the only two lonesome Duo left on the bus ... marty mc lauuuu sorry Mc daid told me to give it to them hard !!!! They are like two little Trocaire Flames ready to go out and all they need is hope and a little fuel to rekindle their spirits ........Marty says !! stamp on them men and put them out of their flame-in missery ..HAAAA.
And David Mulligan would like to thank Tom the Guide for landing his fish yesterday .
3.50
just getting reports in plenty of fish running through strabane waters and big aidan is off the bus 5lb at haggins stream simon said we need a photo aidan
3.45 Omagh area ... a couple of fish taken at the meetings above Newton yesterday.
Lots of anglers out today all along the river from Newton to Strabane.
I decided to take a look at the situation in Sion for myself this morning. For years I worked in Sion, Strabane and Clady on a weekly basis. Often, on my way to work, or going home, I'd stop off to have a look at the goings-on at the weir and below. I was always struck by the sheer numbers of anglers in the water, and more struck by the queue of men waiting their turn to get in. Not my idea of sport at all, but every man to his own, eh!
Anyway, I went there this morning before the rain came ... it hasn't changed.
10.30 am
sorry ..i cant protest anymore ..its like missing a drug .
NEWS ........3 lads caught with net and car at cloghan .
Bailiffs had them and waiting for garda .
plenty of fish at leap .
8.45am
The basics .......dry .....waters all back down ....for information email
info@foylefishing.com or 07763191232 . ...and unlike the grevenue , there was one humble fish caught at the doctors by david mulligan the film director ............he had the crack with the martys and tommy .....im away ....im supposed to be on protest , or is that holidays !!
Monday, 05 July 2010
8.pm
A bit of slaughtering of fish in the grevenue today ....10 caught before 10 am alone and god knows how many after that .........a fish trap for sure ......close the grevenue to 500 yards or except catch and release for the mourne system altogether [ simple] its a bloody disgrace.
Theres no difference in the sion trap and the cloghan trap ...if you want a fish why dont you go hunt for it instead of bunching together like bears in one spot with no respect when one angler is playing a fish .
The other thing is ..when you are playing a fish around each others ankles !! do you not even know about sport anymore and who caught what .
The choice is the club members ...close one section or close the lot !!! its your call .
Its a simple scenario lads ....sion mills grevenue has not been alocated for the killing zone due to the commercial nets being put off ..the nets came off for a reason and its not for a kill slaughter zone in sion .....fish have to get upstream to omagh ..gortin..fintona...plumb bridge ..beragh ...carrickmore ...sixmilecross ..the derg ..the lot .
and the trap at sion will stop that if not banned .
HOW do you think the commercial men feel when they still have to pay their licence whilst they look upon the slaughering at sion all for fun ..eh ...not going to happen .
I must admit ..i did see fish today , but im trying to save at least " some "
I now ask the loughs agency to close down the bears grevenue or it will close you down !! I feel strong about this ....so much so i will not do reports for 4 days by myself as a sign of protest ....omagh anglers exempt by the way ...just me .
if any other web-sites boasts catches in sion , they are now putting a nail in their own coffin for good and thank god .{ cloghan leap ..sion weir }
A 11 fish hooked and returned above cloghan today on the finn .
4.30 pm Omagh
I haven't seen the Strule since last Thursday, but it's a couple of inches higher today than it was then.
The Owenkillew looks to be in good order. I saw 3 men fishing the Meetings upstream of Newton and 2 men on the lower Strule just upstream of the same meetings. I'd be surprised if there were no reports of catches tonight with a good run of grilse on through Sion.
We've had some heavy showers today, but we still need a good drenching.
3.pm
I actually did a report yesterday but it seems to be back on the last two daily reports for some odd reason dated the 3rd instead of the 4th .....perhaps the midnight and the 24 hour clock don't start and finish until 6 am on this blog .
Have you heard about the nights poaching that went on at the doctors through fri sat morning .......white bin liners of fish carried up to the road , even some fell out and sliped back down the hill again ....anyway ..the bailiffs landed and give chase but i think they just got the odd fish that fell out of the bags .
The water today is still on the up side , but the derg and finn are clean and fishable .
wheres all these fish ?
10.15am
A few very small 3 and 4 lb fish going over the weir at sion mills but where have all the big native salmon gone ? i was expecting bigger fish .
I seen one fish getting caught at the grevenue , but all anglers seem to compress into one spot down there .[ its the new bear gathering ]
Its time the grevenue closed or was restricted at least because there is no difference between the grevenue and cloghan leap on the finn ...thats only my views of course or is that ilegal to mention .[ its 500 yards ] up in omagh .
but they must be different up there musten they !!
Anyway .....We have the odd shower and the water is coming into the pink .
8.am
We have an overcast type of a morning and hopefully a continuation of fresh water to detox the old system .
I'm heading for the weir up at sion mills shortly with the camera to see if theres any fish going over the weir at all , This morning will of course certainaly tell the tail what the future holds for the concerned [ we are not clear of the fall out zone just yet ] we need a few thousand fish going over the weir and soon !!
Take a look at yesterdays flood on the derg ..on gallery .

5.30 am
before i retire for a few hours i have to confirm that we will have a good size brown flood .
its still thumping it down .
4 am
pouring it down ...looks like we have lift off with a sure flood ......what a morning .
happy 4th of july
Saturday, 03 July 2010
The mourne is low but we had some serious showers tonight ...not enough though .
And even though we have been warned about the mourne going into catch and release , i think we might survive until the end of the month .
BUT ...If the next flood doesn't provide 5 .000 fish ........we're snookered .
we will always have a good stock of autumn fish on these foyle rivers and thats a fact ..but its not good enough though .
8.am
The Lower Mourne is of course the only place to be right now , with fresh fish moving in all the time .
And i wouldn't discard the Finn as Mr Frank and other lone anglers are up there hooking and enjoying peace and quiet .
We also seem to have an increase in the fish allis shad on the mourne ,[ i have photos but im having trouble putting them on }
Perhaps these illis shad had to move up river a bit because man has been allowed to strip the gravel from the river beds of the foyle down below lifford bridge at porthall .
[ Both the allis and twaite shad are listed on Appendix III of the Bern Convention and Annexes II and V of the EC Habitats Directive. Both species are also included in Section 9(4)(a) of the Wildlife and Countryside Act (1981), (amended April 1998), which makes it an offence to intentionally obstruct access to spawning areas, or to damage or destroy gravels used for spawning.]
That was a section taken from web-site on allis shad ...look it up , its very interesting .
But The Donegal Council have been classed as the untouchables , they were actually buying the grevel from the rapers of our foyle and paying top dollar ..and still are because its not all done yet ? They will be held accountable soon though .
Anyway ..its a showery day and it looks like our 4th of july celibrations could be graced with some thunder and very heavy rain from early morning , yes tomorrow could be independence day for us all . " GOD BLESS AMERICA" or something like that !!!!!!!!!!!!

7.pm
A nice fish of 6 lbs caught at houston grahams on the strabane waters just a short time ago .....dripping with sea lice .
plenty of fish about .
Sorry men ...i did this report on yesterdays date ...here it is again anyway .
And frank elliott hooked two fish in killygordon today .....i was there from 8 to shortly after 9 ...seen nout .off to the finn counter ..another fish caught by Al .
------------
6.30 am
bright and dry .
Here are better photos of yesterdays river conditions , i also want you to take into consideration that the river derg and the river reelin come from the same mountain range and it was the reelin that spewed out its contents into the river finn which caused this flood at killygordon at the counter yesterday .....Then take a look at the derg as it runs into the mourne river !!! The X Files or what ? Are we getting the message here !
What a game eh .
Once this is all over im taking time out cos the wifes giving me to much jip over spending to long on this god damm computer plus the river at all hours...it has taken over the old life she says . plus i'm showing signs of madness and i'm suposed to resemble the soldier with the indian head in the film " rogers rangers "
Its me or the computer she said .
Anyway .....i wish her all the best and hope she finds what shes lookin for .
6.am
Lifford bridge is in excelent order this morning and not a soul on it ..A nice breeze and the right height .[ i can't believe it ]
The arches are different ..At 5.30 am this morning I noticed a milk lorry parked along the upper wall with its cargo of a pallet of fresh milk lowered on the lift and i was wondering were the driver was so i looks over the wall , and boys a dear " was that two milk men or one with spinning rods "

[ I shouldn't be letting out to much info ...deleted ..sorry ]
The evening is dry .
Young devine caught a 5lb fish this evening
2.30 pm
big water in the finn ..photo coming up now .
and no water at all in the mourne , strule or derg ...i just checked it at the meeting near newtownstewart and you can walk across the derg with a pair of wellies and not get wet .
BUT ...i see some anglers are not taking any advice at all and fishing paddys bare stream ....suppose its their money .
My advice now before i put this photo on is , go to glenmore on the finn ...contact details on the glenmore site on our links page .
Photo of the counter at killygordon coming .
And just to finish .......the finn water is going to pull all the foyle fish destained for the mourne up to lifford and houstons....its going to be swamped .
No water in the roe at 9 am{ from the laird }..my phone is back .
Over 4 ft at glenmore and rising ....from glenmore fishery ...cheers men .
12 .30 afternoon
Going now to see whats going up the finn , or even " coming down it " !....where would you go ?
With the water in the reelin they'll be water in the derg ..and boys you'd better wish there is cos the loughs agency have isued a statment in the local papers today warning that the mourne system could go into catch and release soon .
Apparently a brown flood in the reelin ..bursting banks .
9.30 am
You can take the 6.30 am report on the last as the latest cos my mobile has gone to Altnagelvin Hospital and then to the Hair dressers in the diamond in Derry . so please phone 027 71 383666 to contact ... WOMEN !!!! AHHH

6.30 am ... Omagh ... well, it's raining, but whether it's ben enough is doubtful. I'll leave it a while before I do a tour of the rivers to see. Any news would be greatly appreciated.
Midnight .
Thanks for that Omagh , and personally im not hanging about any longer , im off to sleepy sleepy land , and if the rain tooth fairy comes during the night well and good .
My old predictions of the 28th had more rain in it after all , and the next is on the ?? ...im not saying anything anymore !! happy holidays though ?...my dreams are more effective than the weather satellite and thats a fact ......if you only just knew the story!! lol of course ...good nite
11.15 pm ... Omagh area ... yes, it looks bad . The Met Office changed its forecast this morning, suggesting that the deluge may just soften into a downfall! It's changed since, saying heavy rain will occur about 4 am.
Tonight up here in Omagh the heat's still fierce and the rain's stopped. It was never heavy at any time today. I just hope thunder will take over and give us a flood.
Something not right wrong here, as we say. So disappointing.
11.pm
it looks as if its not going to happen men ..the rain has eased .
some wind and the clouds are moving past us fast without the results we need .
we need a cooler climit to get the rain out of the sky .
next report on the hour and there after ...no rain worth , infact it has stoped
9.30 pm
going a little bit better now ..will keep you up-dated through out the night if its worth it .
9.pm
well if it rains like that all night we might get an inch ...that sky would need to buck up a bit and throw out something substantial.
Its our Pete Doc Doherty whos hooking all these fish and not sim after all , he landed one this evening .
4.15 pm
Jimmy Conors has just landed a fish at strabane new bridge on the bubble and fly ..i got a photo .
still no rain and the clouds are heading in the wrong direction !! COME BACK !!
it is humid though .
1.50 pm
Would Al Norby stop teasing the men still on the bus , He's only gone out and landed another fish from the doc's on the mourne ....And another thing !! everyone thought there was some kind of Druid meeting at the doctors last night all night , cos there was 8 dark figures walking down the centre on the river all night in the pitch dark until nearly clear ....it was only later that it was disclosed that it was Charlie Gillespie and the Virgil Earp gang fishing desperately for a grilse and White Trout [ Sea trout ] oh ..and the we Dog was fed up he went to sleep .....i wonder was simon there , had to be !
And a text here informing me that This Angler hooked 5 and lost the lot at lifford bridge yesterday ...think it was sim ..not sure as i had to get a new phone card and lost all the contact names .
I also seen young lads pulling rope over the mouth of the mourne and finn ..are they on drugs or what ??
Still no rain yet ..its 2 pm now exactly .....its like waiting for a train !
7.30 am
Today is D Day for every angler in the country ..plus all the water boards in the country should breath a sigh of relief with the topping up of the drying up reservoirs .
Our old battered finn river needs a face lift and the kiss of life but back into it again . I had a nice walk from Urney flushtown to clady bridge last evening just before dark and i seen 3 very clean fish coming straight out of it and side splashing like as if they were excited and knew fresh water was on the way .[ they know ]
Cloghan are supposed to be looking to get the leap open again because of the catch and release regulations [ they just don't smell the coffee do they . all money money money and after causing this in the first place ] doohhhh
If you need to get away to the donegal mountains and flex your mussels with a fly rod , contact Glenmore fishery { on our links page } Yes this fishery has character and plenty of honest advice and help ......these guys are the group members of the band " simply Red " and what a bunch of bloody great lads .
{To get there } on the main road from ballybofey to glenties , go to glenmore blue bridge beside the church just about 4 or 5 miles out of ballybofey itself ......over bridge ...turn right ....go down welshtown rd for a short distance and just past the school you will see sign on the same side .........ask for Sim.

7 pm Omagh area ...
dp1066@hotmail.co.uk ... OK folks, gird your loins and rosin your bows, it looks like we'll have some action before the weekend. Heavy and persistent rain is the forecast for tomorrow, with an inch in 24 hours the forecast for some areas. At long last. Let's hope for a good run of salmon. Tight lines.
3.35 pm
I seen enough fish along the faughan today as i walked a good length of it .
The clay hole seems to be fishing the best with two caught today already and 5 caught on sat ...mostly on worm by the way .
The Hab below lynches looks to be a stop off point for fish going in over the pass at the pump house , they seem to rest at this section of the river at the upper end of the golf course .
Had a great conversation with raymond Love and his mate Robbie Irvine ...gentlemen ......" tell Alban Norby we were asking about him they said " i took a photo of fish jumping as i stood and talked to the men .
Another we man had a 4lb fish from the hab yesterday , he didn't want his name mentioned but he was chatty enough to tell me all the bars including the new grass cutting machine the faughan anglers are getting to cut along the waterways , it didn't look to bad where we were standing ...strimed well .
The doctors on the mourne produced nothing today so far , but houstons and lifford seem to be doing well very early in the morning .....plenty of fish seen motoring through at lifford bridge this morning aswell .
Sea trout are ok also , some nice ones taken before dark at the gardens .
I must put up this
9.30 am
The loughs agency are walking the river mourne this morning . i noticed two at houston's this morning and plenty of anglers out and about also .
7.40 am
It was a stunning sun set last night , i never seen a more beautiful red sky like it for yonks , but i noticed the sun was going down over derry city in the north instead of ballybofey in the west ...has the earth shifted position or what , or is it just me ? and i wasn't drinking .
Not a bad morning this morning but what about tomorrow , it looks like our fresh water is on the way for a brown flood on thurs and a positive start to july ...cross the old fingers .
And i like it when they mention " accompanied by storm force winds " EXCITING OR WHAT !! Nothing like a good old pressure release with a mighty vengeance .[ we'll probably get one shower and a pet breeze }
Monday, 28 June 2010
7.pm
Two fish caught this evening from the mourne ...just not saying where as i don't want to spoil it for the guys .
And i hear Gerard fly casting instructor Mc Aleer is off the Bus today with a 3lb grilse ..caught on the fly .
Also ..a fish hooked and lost on the shrimpo.
4.30 pm
we have had steady light rain since 10 am this morning and a text informing me that it has been lots heavier in carrickmore above omagh .
12.00 noon
For those emailing their concerns about the catch and release and the photo on the gallery .....Its only the foyle and river finn that catch and release rules apply . The rest are still wavering above the surface ..........its a bloody strange old year isn't it , who would have ever thought that Northwest of Ireland would fall into a long drought .
Those 31 fish got by the fisheries in the net at lifford bridge were late springers destained for the finn i'm told ...all good sized fish and coloured .
7.30 am
A dry morning yet again but we are supposed to be getting rain at some stage in the afternoon , here's hoping .
The loughs agency were keeping an eye or 3 on lifford bridge yesterday as the deservedly sat and took time out to recharge their batteries with a coffee and snack in dolans .....they can also observe Houston's by the way so if you get caught shrimping or netting don't go blaming anyone but yourself .
Some guys don't really understand the seriousness of getting caught shrimping ....you only get a huge fine sometime near Christmas or the prospects of 2 weeks in prison where you learn a whole new meaning to cross dressing ...look what happened to poor Marty oil mc daid , hes up taking part in the strictly come dancing competition in the melmount centre , and his dancing partner is his wife's brother . and just think , he owes it all to just one wee shrimp at the wrong place at the wrong time ..but hey , it was his or should i say her choice !! Whatever ?
Sunday, 27 June 2010
14.20 Omagh area ... there's a change in the air. Rain's on its way, I can sense it, feel it, almost smell it. I just hope there'll be enough to give us a flood over the next couple of weeks.
Here is the photo of our Al norby with his fish from the strabane waters yesterday ..caught on the fly by the y . there was also another fish landed and a guy had a 2lb sea trout on the bubble and something .[ late evening ]
11.20 am
Those were two heavy rain clouds one after another that off loaded their cargo and left small streams running down the sides of the roads ...it has cleared now though.
10.am
The weather is changing by the looks of things and its raining in different places at the minute ...the sky looks that normal Irish western style again thank god ...and those weather satellites are not worth the money that put them there .
8.45 am
Sorry ..there seems to be a piece of dirt stuck in my loading blog , i just have to get the code changed.
Anyway ..here we go again.....ballybofey is under water restrictions and this is supposed to be the driest year since 1929 and that's only up until now .
Well its dry and sunny here this morning again and its a westerly breeze ....i wonder how many fish have been snookered on the mourne this morning so far ...i know the loughs agency are under pressure and I'm sure they need clubs to help instead of sitting waiting for the Gods to save them from mount vesuvius.and we know what happened there ...caked.
Saturday, 26 June 2010
9.pm
31 fish got in a net at lifford bridge .
Whilst walking his dogs on thurs morning early above lifford , young tart kelly from porthall encountered bailiffs grabbing for nets .. young tart said " sure there's no nets here " the bailiffs said " is that right " take a look at this photo on our phone .
Yes ..31 fish laid out on the bank and not one under 5lb .
The trouble with the poachers on the island caused a fracas ...the mother of the boys who were poaching got out of the car to confront the bailiffs who were trying to do there job by tackling the young poachers but got a mothers attack ...the mother got pushed into the bushes by the duck im told and the mothers boys retaliated thus the outcome that we all know of ...my mother would have battered me instead ?
7 fish caught at day break this morning by young devines ..fair play.
im going shrimping at 4 bells in the morning
whats the point in even mentioning that deleted section
9.40 am
It's starting to spit this morning or is that the wife standing behind me with some reference about some chore or another not being carried out properly before she went strictly come dancing in the melmount centre last night .....good luck to majella elliott and Michael Campbel by the way [ winners ] ..hard luck Stevie Hunter and Ester but you can do it all over again tonight ...i think they picked up 10 grand at the door and tickets .
Getting to the rivers now , what can i say ....we're all snookered cos we need water , we might get a re freshener for upper streams on mon ..hopefully ....just to keep things alive .
And my advice to forum users on this site , if you have any serious questions to ask regarding the system , ask the member " the truth " for obvious reasons !!! he knows whats going on more than any of us ?
But don't be asking yourselves pointless questions in the future if and when decissions are made and that you will have all but left it to late to even half close the stable door .
So ..speak now or forever hold thy tongue as the man says !
I promise to take a side step and not get involved .

7.40am
A nice bright morning yet again ......Here is a we quick question before i hit the road .
What Does a salmon poacher look like ? Here is the low down on modern day poaching compared with 25 0r more years ago .
Years ago poachers put there nets on in the dark or close to it and slipped to the local for last orders and back to the river and even had a pleasant bit of crack it they came across bailiffs on patrol , or they went out of the main busy river areas and sneaked a net on at tea time when most anglers were heading for home and something to eat .
NOT so anymore ...times have certainly changed ...Take for instance yesterday evening !! The Urban modern day poacher resembles a hoodie with a blue bag for his last orders at the bar and 6 or 7 young lady accomplices with mobiles and fore-warnings everywhere .... They laugh in the face of police and Garda who can't really do anything with them , and who needs the hassle , so what chance has a bailiff got { you tell me !! ]
Yesterday evening was a sign to give up and let it go Dan ! its all fked for good .
Rumours circulating yesterday that 20 fish were got in a net at houston's on the mourne dismayed me but i wanted to say nothing about it cos i didn't want to put out to much negitive vibes but ....a tee f
shrimpers also on the blackstone at the sion waters ..didn't want to mention that either .
Thursday, 24 June 2010
11.pm
You have to go out yourself to find out what really is happening .
And when i was standing at lifford bridge tonight just after high water , i seen 3 fish turning ..one just below the bridge and two above it ...these tides are huge and
Guess what else i seen in the broad evening light { cob webs } i'm not fighting for lost causes anymore ,im far to tired and this is not my job . but i'll tell you this for nothing " theres nought going up the finn or the mourne on tonights ebb and thats a fact "
6.15 pm
oh dear !! reservoirs are that low we could get a hose pipe banns soon .[ national latest news ]
I'm also hearing now that there is no fish on these tides , well not many as there should be..............I'll know better after tonight though ??
9.45am
A good few fish on these tides , in-fact around 15 to 20 fish hooked and landed on the strabane waters from Houston grahams up to Higgins stream over the last 3 days ...it had to get out lads ...late evening fishing .
A fish of 7lbs caught at houston's this morning [ Vincent ...forget sir name ]
The bailiffs are out in style this morning .....I heard of the patrol boat coming up at high water but never a helicopter ...yes a helicopter combed the foyle at high water and proceeded up the finn and then headed up the mourne looking what seemed to be " for poachers "
They are also out in their jeeps and 4x4s ...i noticed one at lifford bridge with a canadian canoe on top just around high water again .
No one fishing lifford bridge and its in good order after high .
I have been given 43 assorted boxes of printer ink to sell ...packard ....canon ..epson ...and others ...all still in wrapers ...£40 for the lot ...thats under a pound each . 07763191232.
7.45am
Dry and seemingly staying that way for another few days at least . We are coming up to july and the prospects of fresh water look bleak ...we can only wish and keep hoping though .
I'm not exactly sure which night cloghan was poached and I'm not exactly sure if it was the leap itself , but if it was ! is it time the fishery place concrete barbed wire or piked huge blocks all the way down at the leap section to stop nets going on and the man power can be directed elsewhere ............" simples " says the meerkat !! in fact all major stations including spawning beds should be pike blocked and sign posted to warn the crazy young would be swimmers and if you feel the need to rod fish these areas , you could stick to the neck or tail of that particular pool ? only a morning thought !!
My phone is back on service [ 07763191232 ]

11.pm
we had little rain this evening .not worth the bother really .
and a bit of true fact news this evening and don't be shooting the messenger for god sake or else i'll never mention these facts ever again when given to me .
[ 10 fish were taken from cloghan recently and sold for £10 each ] i spoke to one person that bought 2 of them tonight . ..pub talk .
13.25 Omagh ... I'm getting reports of another fish-kill, this time on the Camowen. It seems it occurred yesterday well up the river and the kill wasn't as big as the one up the Owenreagh. No details yet, but I'll keep my ear to the ground.
8.30 Omagh area
I walked stretches of the Camowen yesterday and it was pitiful to look at. I haven't seen the river so low for a long time. Given that the next 3 weeks are traditionally the time for the big grilse runs, I think we may be in bother. Some rain is forecast for today, but it has to be heavy and prolonged to do any good. I've attached a photo on the Gallery.
7.40 am
Dry so far , the forecast is rain from lunch time ...who knows .
Reports are on the slack side i know , but I'm sure the second part of the year will be busy enough .
Tuesday, 22 June 2010
11.pm
We had a nice walk along the finn at urney tonight , not a fish i fear , but theres enough glar to keep nets off thats for sure .
The only section of the mourne fishing right now is below the old main town bridge in strabane [ tide end ]
My sim card in my phone seems to be at a fault no mater what mobile i put it into , so ill have to get that sorted . until then please contact me on 028 71383666 or leave a message and ill get back ...or email
info@foylefishing.com
7.40 am
Yet again another bright morning and I'm beginning to think that I'm not in Ireland at all .
It's all to do with the alignment of course in 2012 .....We all know that don't we !!!!
Anyway ...back on Earth here and straight to the local rivers where i noticed before dark last evening a huge amount of glar and all sorts in our lower regions , its looking awful to be honest .
Some people even suggested close the complete system down altogether until we get substainal fresh water ...it gives it bad for christmas eve !
Monday, 21 June 2010
7.40 am
Yes its the longest day and it's a bright one . Thank God i'm not depending on making a living out of angling tourism here and that's for sure , and i don't advise any fisherman to trail all the way here over the next week and spend his or her time shoving around a water hole like animals in the desert , it's simply not worth it .
I'll. check the only place left this morning when im going over lifford bridge in 15 minutes and get back with some type of report but its like a small trickle at the moment .
But when i was up above strabane bridge for a walk before dark last night i did see a couple of small grilse turning plus a crowd of observers .
I'm actually waiting for the dreaded anouncment to inform us that the system is going into total shutdown ...i'm sure it has also crossed your mind ? ..........give it another week anyway to see what the story is .[ big tides sat ]
Andy Dunne isn't bothered to much !! he's gone to spain for 10 days....The heat is here Andy !!

8 pm, Omagh area ...
dp1066@hotmail.co.uk ...
The rivers up here are gasping for a downpour. The only good news is that the pollution that occurred up near the top of the Drumragh has diluted and now presents no further serious threat. This is in no small part due to the efforts of LA personnel, who worked their backsides off re-oxygenating the rivers affected. Fair play to them.
As an aside, I took 2 of the women in my life mackerel-fishing in Donegal Bay yesterday and it was just great. Between them they caught over 60 fish. Mackerel on light tackle are as good a sporting fish as you'll find. I didn't fish at all, I tackled the girls up and un-hooked as many fish as I could and re-tackled them when they tangled-up. It was great sport. Most of the mackerel were returned, we kept enough for supper and a few for the freezer.
Both ladies enjoyed the afternoon immensely and are impatiently waiting for heavy rain in Tyrone. Just like me and hundreds of other anglers.
7.pm
Glenmore fishery had a few guests fishing the pan and the burn foot plus the trout hole this morning on the river mourne ..they turned a couple of fish but no conections ..water needed badly .
predictions ...........fresh water on the 22222222222228th or 29th maybe ....im afraid to say !!!
This is june but there is still a nip in the air and its not normal summer weather even with no rain .
changing soon i think .
{ poachers on the mourne did not get any fish worth over the last week as i thought , plus they went to the finn and had a bigger dissaster in their books } they seem to be getting 2.40 euro per lb from letterkenny restaurants and another bigger fee from the east of the republic which pay lots more because wild salmon are like hens teeth ...if you were wealthy what would you pay for the real thing instead of the died pettet chemical cancer threatening product ??
pub talk of course .
A question to all now !! if we do get water now , will we have the full quota on the next flood and will it make the ultimate decision for the mourne system to stay within the c/r regulations ?
10.am
A nice selection of new photos coming up now .....some of the abercorn estates water on the upper mourne taken yesterday . peace and tranqueility amoungst nature at its best , even the rock on one of the photos looks like a beached fish .[ carney ] The privite walkway is second to none and navagates along a good section of the waters of that particular mourne river area ...brilliant .
Also ...........Have a look at our local Moyagh Trout fishery , superb double fig trout fishing for a few quid ....prices start from £2 and range right up to £18 if you want to take some trout home with you .
Rods available ............here comes the photos anyway .[ why go anywhere else , its madness ] phone sean on 07889042980
Today is bright and dry ........not good for the salmon fishing thats for sure .
Friday, 18 June 2010
cant seem to transfer photos from camera ..tomorrows a new day.
6.40 pm
I have some nice photos taken today of Lord Hamiltons water on the river mourne .
We are in serious danger for definite and i'm not messing about , Even our river mourne looks as if it will be hit with a law or two if it does'nt rain soon ....it will take a full 12 hours of thunder type stuff to get the rivers up and we only have until july to get it . i know the loughs agency will hang on as long as they can , but what comes first ? what is the july date the count over the weir at sion is reviewed info@foylefishing.com
todays Photos coming up this evening .
The grevenue was cleaned out on wed night i hear .. but somewhere between victoria and strabane is poached every night , even the blackstone ....pub talk.
I had a nice walk along the mourne yesterday evening and I'm worried greatly because never have i seen so many still pools between sion and strabane , this was always reasonably fast flowing waters and poachers could never net the section .
I fear its at the mercy of the netter now as its impossible to protect the complete system at the same time as the man power on the ground is simply not there .
And congratulations To Andy Patton from sion mills who took on a serious problem himself without help from those that should have helped but didn't ..." He got the Sluce gates fixed "

It should only take this one simple email to be acted on { recieved 17th June 2010]
Enquiry: DANNY, JIMMY Bxxxxx HERE, THERES A LITTLE STREAM DOWN THE SIDE OF MY HOUSE THAT RUNS DIRECTLY INTO PADDYS STREAMS, EVERY YEAR AROUND THIS TIME A FARMER ABOVE DUMPS SLURRY INTO IT. ITS JUST HAPPENED THIS WEEK AGAIN! WITH THE WATER SO LOW ITS BOUND TO CAUSE PROBLEMS. IN PREVIOUS YEARS IVE INFORMED THE LOUGHS AGENCY, THE RRVERS AGENCY ANDTHE SION CLUB BUT NOTHING HAPPENS. IT CANT BE TO HARD TO FIND OUT WHOS DOING THIS. THIS KIND OF STUFF IS CAUSING MORE DESTRUCTION THAN THE POACHERS AND REALLY SHOULD BE STOPPED. ANY THOUGHTS ON WHAT CHOULD BE DONE?
7.50 am
dry ..........again .
The french are getting it all and more and we could do with some " Rain i mean "
Europe is flooding .
Volcano's are erupting .
Dolphins are appearing of our coasts .
Oil is gushing into the ocean .
We in Ireland are chocking in dust and drought
We have 3 winters in the one year
Whales are washing up on beaches.
Governments and bankers are killing the economy
And the middle east is in turmoil .
Apart from that everything is fine and I'm going fishing this morning to the strabane waters / the only place left to fish for fresh salmon and sea trout and i'll be singing that old jazz and blues song by Armstrong !! " What a wonderful world "

6.15pm
Our Gentleman Al Norby has done it again within the last hour and a half ..a 11.5 lb fresh fish from lifford bridge , and released again ....al said " what a day " he also released 2 small ones in paddys .
5.pm
This one is from the loughs agency so im not sure about the true source or if they are having the crack or winding me up , but here goes anyway .
{ An angler hooks and lands a nice fish on the finn yesterday and because its catch and release proceeds to put a tag on it and then released it back into the wild again ...he then realizes what he has done and phones the prehen office }
My Advice to this Angler is!!!!! would you the angler in question please take your tackle and a change of cloths with you and proceed to the gates of the New fishery office Near caw rounabout in derry called gransha . you have win yourself a great holiday for one in costa del padded CELL ...all mods and cons plus blondes dressed up as nurses for your own pleasure mate [ thank you ] and enjoy
4.pm
6 fish caught from the strabane / lifford waters yesterday and one today so far .
Houston grahams producing the most of them .
And fair play to big Al Norby landing a fish at 10lb from up near sion ...plus i heard he had 2 smaller ones .
11.am
I've heard some interesting stories this morning but I'm sworn to secrecy , but i can mention however that a meeting will take place concerning them turbeans at sion this week .
It looks thundery at the moment with a spit or two of rain in the air , but its not on our radar at all .
7.10 am
Another bright morning but it gives it to cloud over slightly later .
I was disappointed with the angling programme on BBC Alba last night , It covered a top river in Scotland that is famous for both its salmon and of course CASTING.....It began with low water conditions and understandably that reason for no fish being caught , then it went on to high water conditions and dirty, with the dirty explanation for again " no Fish caught " and fair enough on that note , but out of the whole complete 30 minute of the programme it only showed 3 minutes of perfect conditions and one salmon caught ....disappointing or what .
WE are talking low reservoirs here now .. Well that was of course inevitable for sure .
But I'll tell you one thing that could come into force here very easly in the next 2 weeks .. all of the rest of the foyles rivers Mourne in particular could dive bomb into a catch and release for the rest of the season if we don't get water . or worse ? This is the 16th of the month remember and near to the longest day of the year .
In one weeks time we will have already turned to the darker side again and Our salmon numbers are simply not over the counter at sion mills or indeed anywhere else , so measures I'm sure " will have to be taken " .......BUT .....anything could happen within two weeks time, but hasn't remember ? " in the last 11 "?. .......this is definitely the strangest year on record !! We live in hope .

4.pm
Yet again Another salmon fishery story on BBC Alba tonight . { 8.30 pm }
7.40 am
A bright morning with temperatures set to rise .
There's no great show from the expected grilse run that usually arrive here at this time of the season to the foyle...there's that word again " Expect " or great Expectations as i kept mentioning in the past .
A meeting in Jacksons Hotel next weekend to discuss the future of the Finn .{ suppose better late than never } That could be a beginning all the same to all river meetings from all rivers here !!!
Monday, 14 June 2010
10.pm
Bailiffs out along the finn this evening and walking most of the hot spots .
And i have been told that day permits for strabane/lifford anglers can be posted out to those that have difficulty and wanting to fish sundays ...call country sports strabane 71883021
5.pm
Here is our first report of hopefully many more from Abercorn Estates baronscourt{ mourne section }
With the rise in the water anglers have started to fish the Upper Mourne. Saturday 11 June saw 4 salmon caught on the fly, local and experienced anglers C Gillespie (8,4) in the Snaa and J Hutton (3 , 2) in Doaks, two other fish were reported lost. On Sunday 12 June a 6 lb salmon was caught on the Half Water by J Irvine. The prospects for the forthcoming week looks good.
2.pm
In pursuance of the said Regulations
I HEREBY SUSPEND NETTING IN THE RIVER FOYLE, LOUGH FOYLE AND SEAWARD OF LOUGH FOYLE, AND RESTRICT ANGLING IN THE RIVER FINN AND RIVER FOYLE, TO ANGLING ON A CATCH AND RELEASE BASIS ONLY, FROM:
DATE: 14th June 2010 TIME: 12 midday
Dated: 14th June 2010 Signed: (Chief Executive) RJ DERICK ANDERSON
12.00 noon
A couple of very small 2lb grilse caught at sion this morning , unfortunately they had to be taken as they swallowed the hooks .
And Our Dee Mc Colgan from strabane has come off the bus , but its a russian bus .
Dee has just landed the two heaviest fish of the day over on the famous yokanga river in Russia ..one at 29lbs and one at 24lbs .......a 11 for the day between the party.
The spelling of the river could be wrong , but you catch my meaning anyway .
And a reminder ...from tomorrow the complete foyle and finn are catch and release ...and the nets are off also.
7.35 am
Cloudy to an extent but dry , the weather looks on the up and up as far as sun worshipers are concerned , the week ahead seems set for " Hot "
Plenty of inquiries regarding strabane/ lifford day tickets ....i can but only point you to the shop in strabane . i'm not sure how you get sunday tickets but i'll find out .
I have a photo of the river finn at 6 pm yesterday up at the counter at the cross , wait until you see this for bones .
but it has turned into a bird santuary , i seen about 100 ducks of all sizes .
Sunday, 13 June 2010
The weather has been on the wet side so far today and some heaving rain up towards omagh and finn valley .
We might not get a flood , but it will re oxygenate the vulnerable river ponds that are laying all over the upper reaches ....perhaps a few tankers of lake water at the head of these tributaries and let her go .
Martin Shop mc daid had a 5.5lb fish this morning from lifford bridge ...on the fly
Saturday, 12 June 2010
1am
keep this rain up for an hour and we are elected .
11.45pm
.
1pm
A fish caught at the gardens last evening before dark , tides of course are big , and i would say that 90 % of you have moved that little arrow back and forth on the BBC weather map to give you an indication on when and how much rain we get tonight and early morning .
Its the last chance for another while i would say , and it only seems to be from around midnight until around 3 or 4 am ........I don't know ! We live in hope anyway .
Saturday, 12 June 2010
10.45 am
Martin Shop Mc Daid has come off the bus this morning with a fresh run fish of 5.5lbs from lifford bridge .
Friday, 11 June 2010
2.pm
Sorry .. thought i was finished .
The loughs agency contacted me to ask " did Marty oil mc daid make a quick cask from that fish before he returned her as it was the smallest fish on record ever to enter the foyle system.
Radio foyle have also requested an interview with Marty and they want a photo of both patsy with his biggest salmon cask and we Marty with his less than 1lb massive fish standing together .
The loughs agency also said " if he had have kept it he could never have put a tag on it as it was under a certain weight " so technically hes still on the bus !!! so ................GEEEET Back on that bus again you try er for fame you .
And could someone phone the ambulance for Mc laughlin and shop mc daid as they can't get off the tackle shop floor with laughing .....they look like those aliens from the cadburys smash add.
12.noon .
.it is the 11th ....up all night with the flue and im delirious a bit .
The finn has , as some of you know by now { made catch/release } and the date has been made official now ..the 15th june ........sign posts will be put up on upper areas and you are advised to do on your rivers what some mourne ..strule..and the rest of the systems anglers are doing already [ release as many as you can ]
We hope that we get enough rain now to get these stranded fish on the bottom end up to the top .
WHAT IS THE WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE NEXT TWO DAYS ANYWAY ...must check
A bit of rain tomorrow night i think ..hope theres thunder along with it .....im off for the day now.
7.45 am
overcast but dry ...it actually looks like Autumn .
The situation is looking bad at the moment and god only knows when we will get water . This i think has never happened before , not in my lifetime anyway .
My head is gone completely , i was counting the wrong dates and thought today was the 11th , im taking a break .
Martys huge fish being returned on the gallery now.
Thursday, 10 June 2010
11.pm
we seen nothing at all whilst fishing the doctors tonight ...marty oils photos now up on gallery .
still 7 on the bus ....simon or Aidan next .
1.45, Omagh area ...
dp1066@hotmail.co.uk ... I'm just back from a tour of the affected area and have seen some of the damage for myself. There are dead fish all over the place, some very good trout indeed slaughtered, as well as salmon parr and juvenile trout. It looks like a major disaster as far as that stretch of river(s) is concerned. I got some photos up above Edergole, I'll try to get them reduced in size so they'll fit on the Gallery later. Because of the low water conditions, the pollution could well make its way further downstream, though the LA are fighting hard to contain it. The Drumragh is in grave danger.
1.15pm
10 miles of water have been lost and affected badly . { prepare yourselves for the inevitable men }if we don't get a flood soon ?? need i say anymore .
12.30 afternoon .
Statement .
On Monday 7th June through the Agency's on call system a call was received about a pollution incident on Aghlisk River at Corryglass Road, Fintona. Agency staff investigated the incident and statutory samples were taken. The investigation carried on through the night on Monday night and the pollution continued on downstream into the Owenreagh River and continued to kill fish. The Agency deployed their aeration equipment to re-oxygenate the water. At present the pollution has reached the Drumragh River at Ballyhatty and fish are continuing to die. The Agency are continually working since the report came in and the investigation is ongoing. John McCartney
Director of Conservation and Protection
7.45 am
a bright cloudless morning at this time .Now the crack !! As was reported yesterday we had a few inches of fresh water from each tributary which left the mourne with about 8 or 9 inches late in the evening .So the best place i thought would be the better was the doctors on the strabane / lifford waters because of the gravel barrier .So off i go and met our marty oil mc daid arriving at the same time , we slagged each other about different things and of course the " not off the bus " got a mention .We then proceeded to fish it down , and in no time at all marty was in her ...Well he play her for a while and because we hadn't got a net between us , tried to beach her , but it was to early { yes to EARLY MARTY }But i noticed the panic on martys face as he thought for a second about getting off the bus , and at the same moment " TING " Fish off ... it didn't break , it just spat it out .Well that mans face !!! holy Sh-t ...i nearly died along with him . { the face expressions lol }After about 3 or so minutes he went back in and low and behold " another fish " And this time marty ment business and had her on the bank in two minutes ...and fair play to him !! he released her again .Photo shortly ..i hope ..cos time is not on my side and i have to wait around derry city for two hours .Anyway .....The man face lit up and eased the previous pain . We fish another have hour and went different ways home ....I had to cross the top of the doctors to get to my car , but whilst crossing i noticed a fish coming down tail up out of the water and splashing , it had obvously hit the gravel and was making her way back down to the rock ...but the tail kept sticking out of the water and splashing even in the deep water {strange ]Definitely fish today .
Photos later marty ...have to wait around till 12 noon [ school exams ]
Wednesday, 09 June 2010
7.30 am
Its dull and overcast but not raining that hard , in actual fact it could just do that little bit better for a couple of inches at least on our waterways here .
The tides are building now and this is the 3rd third tide from the top one on the 12th which means its very strong.
I have an hour or two to spare on the faughan this morning because of half days and exams , so im going to snap up a few photos of the present conditions there and have them on the gallery when i get back .
Its actually raining that bit heavier now as i finish this post
Wednesday, 09 June 2010
11.pm
A cracker of a report coming up , but i might leave it until the morning ..but the quick story is " eventually marty oil got off the bus " . photos also as i was there .
Mark tierney from carricklee had two fish at lifford today also .
4.20 pm
Only 3 or so inches at glenmore and ballybofey and the day has cleared since 2pm.
So ....The flood red alert game is over and we're clearing the table and switching to green again for another 5 days at least .[ so stand down men} lol
don't panic or get excited about these inches cos its over 1ft possibly 2 below normal level everywhere ...so we actually need at least 1ft first and then the extra .
3.30 pm
4 inches in the lower finn so far .....worth a trip to the doctors on the river mourne ..fish will be taking advantage and going on the couple of inches.
Infact ..The same applies at the steps on the finn .
Noon, Omagh area.
There's a few inches of fresh water in the Strule, though not a lot. It means, however, that any more rain will go straight to the river and raise it. A couple of hours of steady rain would do the trick. It's raining lightly here at the moment, but there does seem to be plenty of water in the sky. Fingers crossed!
11.15 am
The hope is back on again ....its raining nicely and i would be happy if it even stayed up for an hour or two .....im saying no more until the fat lady sings
9.30 am
I don't mean to dampen your spirits but the cloud seems to be breaking up here now , it seemed to be raining heavier in derry and north donegal which is no good to upper foyle tributaries .
The tide at lifford bridge was big enough around 8 bells and you would think we had a few inches of fresh along with it , but sadly its not enough if there is.
I would appreciate if you would text me on 07763191232 if you notice any kind of a rise in streams from upper tributaries .
7.30 am

5pm
Our rain has cleared away to leave a dry evening with the prospects of a fresh diminishing greatly .
12.noon .
some light rain at times .
10.45 am [ rumours now , but with a 99.9% possibility of course ]
There was a bit of a pollution spill above omagh on one of the strules tributaries yesterday and young salmon were killed , but the loughs agency have now contained it .
And a bit of an incident at porthall with a bit of a skirmish with men booked and some on a serious booking charge .
poachers seem to have accumulated to the one area of the foyle because of the drought and the concentration is causing friction amongst the poachers themselves as-well as the bailiffs .
Anyone wanting to see the late night spectacle and the disco lights will now have to pay at the red bridge to get on and witness what looks like the aurora borealis...starts at 12 midnight remember and finishes at 3.30 am .........proper
dress .[ boxing gloves and shorts ] NO NET TIGHTS for obviously reasons .
All the finn fisheries will be contacted by the loughs agency within the next two weeks to confirm to them officially what the new laws on the catch and release are .
The situation as from this year on is ? finn salmon can without hindrance from commercial or sporting form , be allowed to make it to their spawning grounds on the reelin and finn and others of the same tributaries from the ocean .
You can take this as a warning from certain conservation parties and not from me personally but it makes sense in the present circumstances when one thinks about it .[ this is the message ]
Salmon and sea trout catches should be monitored by clubs on the complete mourne ..faughan ..and roe system ..this also takes in the derg and strule etc .
Catch and release is advised and clubs should bring into force their own rules and regulations to sustain their own fishery .
Failing to do so will only result in a similar finn situation within the next couple of seasons .
Would the older mear cats of certain sections of the mourne please stop using 14 year olds to take the flack when approached by bailiffs for shrimping .
and finally ..don't forget the programme tonight [ alba bbc ] 8.30 pm ......salmon at their best in far north scotland .
The channel is situated next page beyond the RTEs
10am
light rain at the moment , nothing substantial or sufficient for our needs though .
6.20 am
Yes dry again at this early hour in the morning , and it looks as if it never had so much as a shower during the whole night .,,spitting a bit though [ great expectations gone wrong yet again eh]
Big tides coming up and more fish on the way this weekend .
Monday, 07 June 2010
4 pm
I took a walk down below the groynes at lifford on the foyle and seen one good fish turning near the far bank ...nothing spectacular in the form of fish showing anyway .
And a text telling from the loughs agency that a pollution drill was carried out today .
well suppose one has to be ready .
Still ney rain .
10 45 am
A photo of the tidal finn situation now up on the gallery .
And photos of those gortin village appartments will be put up on the gallery during the week . ideal for a party of anglers
.http://vimeo.com/9167594
8.am
The morning is dry yet again , you have to admit though , it is a record for the northwest of Ireland not to have substantial rain for so long , the last good flood was caused by snow i think and that was end of march start of April .
There's nothing happening here right now and not worth the visit , but that could change with the tides this week ..rain is forecast and i actually think we will get some this time but how much .
The finn is down to her bones also but i noticed a fish turning below the dry beds at clady bridge last evening . photo of the river later this morning .

Yes i did have a few beers yesterday evening , and it was in a gorgeous village called gortin up in the foot of the sperins .
A good day was had by us all in a little pub called moseys , a place where there is no bookies and your mobiles don't work except T mobile [ big barney from the herald was going mad cos he had picked the winner of the derby and couldn't get on }
Anyway ..What a nice little village to get away for a weeks holiday for the summer , it has the usual shops ..a restaurant and a butchers plus of course 3 pubs.
The owenkillew is 1/2 mile away and produces some good fish from july onwards and i must add " the trout are not even touched "
There is 5 day tickets available but never a Que for those as no one knows about the place .
Just go into G Trainers butchers and get your day ticket for £15 per day and if you need accommodation we have two self catering flats just on the main street ...all mod ..cons .
Worth it .. because they are going for half the price compared to anywhere else in Ireland .
Photos later on this coming week .

Yes i did have a few beers yesterday evening and it was in a gorgeous village called gortin up in the foot of the sperins .
A good day was had by us all in a little pub called moseys owned by clady man Ryan O neil [ also jockey ] gortin is a place where there is no bookies and your mobiles don't work except T mobile [ big barney from the herald was going mad cos he had picked the winner of the derby and couldn't get on it}The famous trainer Sylvester Kirk pops into the pub when hes home as Ryan and he are best friends and went to school when they were young .
Anyway ..What a nice little village to get away for a weeks holiday to this summer , it has the usual shops ..a restaurant and a butchers plus of course 3 pubs.
The owenkillew river is just a 1/2 mile away and produces some good fish from july onwards and i must add " the trout are not even touched "

Plus i must add ...Gortin is only 6 miles from the strule river , 4 miles from the glenelly river and 7 miles from both the Mourne and derg rivers .
The morning is cloudy but dry , It seems to be coming from the north east but you can tell its changing for a wet period soon ...touch wood .
Its going to take one hell of a down pour to even get it back to normal .
17.30 Omagh area

The Loughs Agency had a stand at the Springwatch event in Omagh's Grange Park today. LK was there, giving instruction in fly-casting and giving out sound angling advice, along with other members of the team. The event was held in bright sunshine, with temperatures in the 20s.
Rain is forecast for tonight and early tomorrow morning, let's hope the Rain-Gods listen to the plaintive cries of anglers up and down the country. Please, let it rip ... which is precisely what I'm about to do!
10.30 am
A beautiful morning yet again and strabane / lifford plus your down the foyle river is the only place to be right now . even sections of the finn believe it or not [ tidal ]
And the commercial nets-men received a letter this morning stating they will be off for 3/4 years .
i haven't seen the letter but received a text from a well informed individual .
rivers are skeleton looking and not good ....can you hang on for a few days now as we need the heavens to open [ ha ] i would prefer the new moon time or after.
I would say that the next statement will be the official announcement that the finn is catch/release for the same period .[ spawning beds included , happy days for the beds but i would prefer them closed altogether ]
People ask me " what way do you find j Mccartney the conservation officer from the loughs agency " ]
Well hes nothing but a ......GREAT LAD ..messing j. Actually ...the man seems to be a man of his word and has an aim to bring the system back to the way it used to be , and that means neither you nor me nor the richest person on this earth can sway him in any other direction from the one hes going , and who would want to ....there is are few though .
All i can say is " good luck John "
And we must all prevent the mourne and tributaries from going the same way now by releasing that coloured fish or the one you don't really need irrespective of what colour it is .

11.am
So much for the threat of rain , its now a gorgeous day .
The weather woman actually said and keep saying " rain "and i keep thinking are you sure that's not for late next week and after ..But the weather women just like all the rest of the species .. Are right .....even if their wrong .
Anything for a bit of peace as you all know men and you dare not even say " i told you so ."
Like ! Yes darling ..your right ....Bermuda does look nice for a change of scenery .
And ! yes darling ..your right again ..we are lost , but those little green men are showing great interest in you big time darling and i might get rejected for always being wrong [ hopefully ] but don't fight them darling and step into the beam like a good woman , and may you live long and Prosper !! .
Sea trout about i hear .
7.40am
We had a light shower just now but has cleared up again , rain is slowly but surely moving in and next week seems promising { we hope }i was hoping for fresh water to coincide with the new moon , but if we get some earlier " great "
R West had that 13.5lb salmon on wed by the way , with of course ..his dog

12 noon
There was plenty of fish seen this morning at lifford bridge but no joy .
And I'm hearing rumours now that the nets-men are going on mid june irrespective of what the loughs agency's decision is ............oh dear ! Trouble at mill lad ?
Plus ...the finn rod men say " if they go on , we catch and keep " Oh feckin dear ! Double Trouble at mill lad !!.
I think this would be a good time to head to lanzarote for a chill pill of a fortnight.

21.20, Omagh area ...
dp1066@hotmail.co.uk ... the lack of water in our local rivers is very frustrating, to say the least. Heavy rain is forecast for tomorrow night, but will it be enough to give us a fresh? Let's hope so.
I've been taking the opportunity to get my small veggie-patch into order and it's going well. I have, however, unearthed 6 New Zealand Flatworms in the garden in 2 days. It's worrying, they do great damage to our native Earthworms. I'm sure many of you have come across these brutes. Not that I can complain too much ... I'm a NZ Citizen myself! But at least I know how I came to be here, not like the Flatties.

Wait until you hear this story which happened this evening .
[ We even have a terrier dog called Oscar who has come off the bus today .]
Whilst fishing the doctors today an angler hooked and played a nice fresh salmon on the fly , and after about 20 minutes or so he got her near the banking and whoops !! Lost her .
Well that was shocking enough but excepted by the angler to an extent , well what else could the man do .......But ...mad dog Oscar refused to be beat and after about 15 minutes or so during which time his master had his hands over his head and in a state of shock and sitting down cos his we legs were shaking ....Oscar was into to his neck and wrestled the same fish to the bank and made his master proud .
The we dog made no bones about it when he landed her " he wants rewarded big time" plus he is now called rusty.
So the talk around the town of strabane and lifford right now is !!! A dog can do better than Marty oil mc daid and Simon Preston .{ and a few others i might add }
Oh by the way .......Whats this about Marty oil cheater Mc Daid getting his photo taken with a 5lb fish that one of the young devines caught today . wonder what he was going to do with that photo .....ggggggeeet back on that bus again you BP blaggard and sit beside Simon .
whatever time you two lads get a fish and get off that bus i'll present you both with an Oscar each and eat my hat into the bargan . HA .
Sorry simon { that marty mc laughlin never told me to say anything }cough
Frank Elliott returned two nice clean fish today also ..or was that last night ....good man frank . you take the lead yet again , but watch christy Kelly..hes at your rear end and closing fast..
9.30 am
A bit of activity on the mourne this morning with camera snapping fishery officers in bushes and walking the banks and bridges
Another fish dead at billys pool .
7.30am
I must admit , the bbc beat me to bringing the subject up about water conserving this morning . i was planning that from 3 days ago but simply forgot every morning .[ the message is clear } save your water .
Its a lovely morning anyway and i would suggest you enjoy it irrespective of what else is going on in this world .
It starts to get dark in 3 simple weeks time remember and our minds need a good touch of good summer sun to keep us sane , so !! suck it all in and enjoy it .
I'm still dreaming about that healthy river i seen on BBC Alba last night . That my friends is the way rivers should be .
As i said last night , the same programme is on at 8.30pm next week ...its the next page after the RTEs on sky if your lost .

9.30pm
Well what a programme we had on BBC Alba tonight at 8.30 pm ...North of Scotland and a small river like the size of the mourne beg or even the upper finn at the S bends , but closer to the sea cos the fish were covered in sea lice and they were skipping all over the place .
Definitely nothing going on out at Sea as far as they are concerned . It is simply to far out of the way for poachers of all sorts to clean the beds .
Its on at the same time next week ...take a good look at that for a river and think about what we could have here .
4.30pm
I noticed a fish getting played at huston grahams at 2.30 this evening ...i had to keep moving as i was driving at the time .
And it looks like the bubble and fly is going to be banned from all the loughs agency loughs and lakes within the catchment area .
1.30 pm
A simple piece of good news for a change .John Kelly from cliftonville came to strabane yesterday and got his day permit from country sports and proceeded to the river where he landed his first salmon ever and hooked her by the way on the fly .
Im just wondering is that the photo i got sent to my phone last night.
Country sports tell me you can get a good pair of breathable waders for around £75 in their sale that is presently on at the moment ...25% off all items.
7.50am
No fresh water . a report from glenmore confirms .
Even though i would have welcomed a few inches I'm not overly concerned as we really don't need water up until the new moon or even 3/4 days after it , that way once a bit of fresh water hits it will leave the complete contents of the foyle and lower finn plus the mourne right up to the spawning beds in one go .
we also don't need any changes to what was proposed by the loughs agency for the foyle and finn ...and a fresh before that date might have jeopardized that decision .
This is only my view remember .
And i'm slightly worried if we DO NOT get rain before july , the system might completely shut down to all ..........but don't worry . just scaring you .
